Two-time OWL champion and legendary off-tank player for San Francisco Shock Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi announced his retirement from the Overwatch League on Thursday after competing in the league for three years.

“I have many great memories [competing in Overwatch] that I can cherish,” Choihyobin expressed in his retirement video. “Although I will be retiring, I will be watching Shock matches and now I can cheer just like the rest of the Shock fans and I can be one of you. Thank you for cheering for me up until now, I am going to cheer for Shock too now.”

During his time in the league, ChoiHyoBin became one of the most decorated players to ever play the game while serving as the off-tank for San Francisco Shock.

He won two season championships with the team, taking home the Grand Finals MVP award for the 2019 championship match. He also claimed a Role Star award for Tank in both 2019 and 2020 and was a OWL All-Star in 2020 as well.

In addition to his experience in the Overwatch League, ChoiHyoBin also competed for the Korean World Cup team in 2019, where Korea placed third behind United States and China.

ChoiHyoBin is the latest player to depart the league, here at the end of Overwatch 1. As we head into Overwatch 2 in OWL season 5, legends like Gesture, ChoiHyoBin, and Saebyeolbe will be remaining behind, opening up new slots for fresh talent to step up and take their place.
