Only a month before the franchise’s 25th anniversary, Niantic planned to launch a major celebration of programs focusing on all generations of Pokémon.
Pokémon is expected to receive updates to mark the franchise’s widely anticipated 25th anniversary, with Niantic sharing the celebration information for the coming weeks via its blog, focused on the Hoenn and Johto regions, and officializing the launch of a new mega-evolution for raids.

Celebrating Hoenn: from 19 to 24 January
From January 19th, at 10 a.m. January 24th at 8 p.m. local time, will be accessible for the Hoenn region celebration event, with iconic third generation Pokémon appearing quite often in the wild.
Among these are Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Taillow, Loudred, Nosepass, Aron, Meditite, Roselia, Carvanha, Numel, Baltoy, and a few more, with great chances of encountering a Shiny Aron.
Along with these, Skitty, Aron, Corphish, Lileep, Anorith, Bagon, and Beldum will be more likely to hatch from 5 km eggs. In addition, three search and capture challenges will be activated, which will award rewards such as berries, XP, candies, Poké Balls, and more.
Finally, Breloom, Mawile, Grumpig, Spinda, Absol, and the legendary Groudon and Kyogre will be appearing more frequently in three- and five-star raids, for the entire duration of the event.
Johto’s Celebration starting from the 26th of January until the 31st
From January 26th at 10 a.m. January 31st at 8 p.m. The Johto region celebration party, in which there will be higher chance of capturing and collecting second-generation Pokémon, will be active at local time.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Hoppip, Aipom, Sunkern, Yanma, Murkrow, Gligar, Snubbull, Slugma, Miltank, and more will be among these, and they are very likely to notice a Shiny Miltank.
Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Wooper, Tyrogue, Smoochum, and Larvitar are more likely to hatch 5 km of eggs with them. In fact, three competitions will be ignited to search and catch, which also will grant prizes such as stardust, Poké Balls, Ultra Balls, and more.
Finally, in three-star raids, Togetic, Espeon, Umbreon, Skarmory, and Miltank will feature more often. The legendary beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune will start to appear in five-star raids before and after the event ends, from January 26 to February 9.
Mega Ampharos assembles Mega Raids
Starting now, within its game’s servers, Mega Ampharos has been activated to occur in Mega Raids along with a new special event that will be active on 24 January when some incense is used.
Various Pokémon forms will occur more regularly during various segments, these being:
- From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Electric-type Pokémon
- From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Dragon-type Pokémon and Pokémon that evolve into Dragon-type Pokémon
- From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Electric-type Pokémon
- From 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Dragon-type Pokémon and Pokémon that evolve into Dragon-type Pokémon
In the areas impacted by Incense, and a special kit inside the in-game shop that will contain 3 Incenses, for just 1 PokéCoin, the case will also offer better chances of receiving a Shiny Mareep.
