ONE Esports MPLI to return in final quarter of 2021

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) developer Moonton announced on Wednesday (5 May) that they will once again be partnering with ONE Esports, the Singapore-based esports venture of sports media company ONE Championship, to host this year’s MLBB Professional League Invitational (MPLI) in the “final quarter of 2021”.

The 2021 ONE Esports MPLI will feature the best teams from the regional MLBB Professional Leagues (MPL) across Southeast Asia in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar competing for their share of the US$100,000 prize pool.

More details about the 2021 MPLI including whether the event will be hosted live or online, as it was last year, have yet to be revealed.

ONE Esports will also be running up to 100 MLBB smaller community tournaments in 2021 “to celebrate the best players amongst local grassroots communities.”

On top of hosting the MPLI for the second-straight year, ONE Esports has also entered into an agreement with Moonton that will see it become the official media partner across all Moonton official esports leagues and events for the rest of the year.

“I’m excited to announce that ONE Esports is partnering with Moonton again to deliver a unique experience to MLBB fans around the world. The MPL Invitational and the upcoming community tournaments are great opportunities to showcase the incredible skills of the best MLBB players. ONE Esports is honoured to support the MLBB esports scene, and we look forward to crowning the new champions,” ONE Esports CEO Carlos Alimurung said in a press release.

“We look forward to working closely with ONE Esports to bring exhilarating experiences to our regional players and fans. This partnership will help to propel MPL to the next level and unlock boundless possibilities for our esports community,” added Lucas Mao, Managing Director of Global Esports at Moonton.

Last year’s MPLI, which was held online from 27 November to 6 December 2020, featured 20 of the best MLBB teams from all across Southeast Asia. Indonesian team Alter Ego went undefeated throughout the entire tournament to become the first-ever MPLI champions.
